Stainless Sheet V Grooving Cut Before Bending

According to the bending process of CNC Press brake, after the workpiece is bent, the bending edges of the decorative surface are in a circular arc shape, and its radius is directly proportional to the thickness of the metal plate. The thicker the plate, the larger the arc radius formed by bending. Especially In elevator car assembly for stainless sheet bending applications, if the bending radius is large, the splicing gap of car wall plate and ceiling bending plate will be large, which will affect the appearance.

So for most thin stainless sheet bending for decoration, mainly for 4mm stainless bending, it's required V cutting grooving first before put it to the cnc press brakes for bending angles, then  stainless sheet profiles can get smaller Radius bending angles.

Setting of groove cutting depth

The groove depth varies with the thickness of stainless sheet. In the bending process of elevator grooving, the thickness of the remaining plate after grooving is generally 40% ~ 50% of the original plate. If the plate thickness is 1.0mm, the grooving depth is 0.5mm and the thickness of the remaining material is 0.5mm; If the plate thickness is 1.2mm, the grooving depth is 0.7mm and the residual material thickness is 0.5mm; If the plate thickness is 1.5mm, the grooving depth is 0.9mm and the residual material thickness is 0.6mm; If the plate thickness is 2.0mm, the grooving depth is 1.2mm and the residual material thickness is 0.8mm. If the groove is too shallow, the bending effect will not be obvious, and if it is too deep, it will easily affect the structural strength of the workpiece.

Setting of V-Grooving angle

After the grooving process, the bending springback of the metal plate is greatly reduced, but it still exists. Therefore, when planing the V-shaped groove, the groove can be flexibly slotted according to the bending angle of the workpiece. Generally, the V-groove angle of stainless steel sheet is 1 ° ~ 2 ° larger than the bending forming angle. For example, the V-groove angle of a workpiece with a forming angle of 90 ° is generally 92 °. In this way, the angle error caused by bending springback can be avoided.

Types and selection of grooving cutters

The types of grooving knives are mainly divided into diamond top angle grooving knives, square grooving knives, triangular grooving knives, circular grooving knives, etc. when planing grooves, appropriate knives can be selected according to the different shapes and angles of V grooves. When planing ordinary V-groove, the tool angle should be less than the angle of V-groove. For example, when the V-groove angle is 45 ° ~ 60 °, the groove cutter with diamond top angle of 35 ° shall be selected; When the angle is 60 ° ~ 80 °, the regular triangle slotting cutter shall be selected; When the angle is 80 ° ~ 90 °, the slot cutter with diamond top angle of 80 ° shall be selected; When the angle is greater than 90 °, a square slotting knife shall be selected; When opening a circular groove, select a circular groove knife.
