In recent years, the application cases of industrial robots in China have increased rapidly, mainly in the fields of welding, spraying, handling and so on. Workpiece bending is a widely used and dangerous work, so the market prospect of robot bending is very optimistic, and there are many successful experiences abroad. At present, 40% ~ 50% of the bending machines in the sheet metal processing workshops in the European and American markets are equipped with robot automatic bending system, while the bending automation in China has just started. In the next 10 years, the domestic demand for bending robots will show a straight-line upward trend.

CNC sheet metal bending flexible machining unit with robot as the core executive component is a set of highly automated equipment combination, which has the advantages of high efficiency, high quality and high flexibility. In the bending flexible machining unit, selecting the appropriate component combination can provide better support for machining efficiency and flexibility. The bending accuracy depends on the accuracy of the bending machine itself, the positioning accuracy of the robot and the cooperative control of the robot and the bending machine; The difficulty of cooperative control lies in the speed matching between the robot and the bending machine and the running track of the workpiece supported by the robot; Poor following effect will seriously affect the bending angle, forming effect and flatness of plate surface, thus affecting the quality of finished products.


The gripper is the "hand" of the robot to take and place the workpiece instead of manual work. The gripper of bending robot is generally composed of multiple suction cups installed on a metal frame.


Stacking pallets are usually used for loading and unloading platforms, and conveyor belts or roller tables are also used as units to transport raw materials and transfer finished products. Oily plates are prone to adhesion, resulting in multiple plates being picked up at one time. Various splitting devices (such as magnetic splitting device) and detection sensors can be installed next to the loading table to ensure that the grabbed plates are single sheets.


The positioning workbench is an inclined platform with a retaining edge, on which micro convex balls are distributed. The robot transfers the steel plate to the positioning table, and the plate slides freely to the retaining edge under gravity. Since the position and retaining edge of the positioning table are fixed, when the robot grabs the plate again, the position of the plate and the gripper is relatively accurately fixed, which provides a benchmark for the next bending.


The flip frame is a fixed frame of the gripping device. When the robot needs to take the workpiece in another position, it can put the workpiece on the turnover frame to fix it, and the robot will grasp the workpiece in the new position again. In some special occasions, you can also use the bending machine die to clamp the workpiece and change the grasping position.


At present, whether it is a general standard six axis robot, or a special bending robot for bending process optimization in robot arm spread or body, it needs the support of bending following algorithm, and there are few cases that do not follow bending. Without good follow-up effect, the fixture or suction cup gripper will pull the workpiece due to poor follow-up track, forming sheet wrinkles and affecting the forming quality. Establishing an accurate bending following motion model of the robot is helpful to establish a good following trajectory algorithm,obtain excellent following effect.
